New NOAA Fisheries Service Recreational Fishing Information Collection Program, with Future Registry for Anglers
NOAA Fisheries Service is undertaking an initiative to build a new program to improve the collection, analysis and use of recreational saltwater fishing information. Part of the initiative will include creating a national registry of saltwater anglers. Congress, through the recently reauthorized Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act, called on NOAA Fisheries Service to take the lead in creating the registry. The legislation set a January 1, 2009 deadline for the registry to take effect. For information on the initiative and the creation of the registry go to www.countmyfish.noaa.gov/.
