NOAA Fisheries Announces 2016 Appointments to Regional Fishery Management Councils

Today, NOAA Fisheries is announcing the appointment of 19 new and returning members to the eight regional fishery management councils that partner with NOAA Fisheries to manage ocean fish stocks. 

The new and re-appointed council members begin their three-year terms on August 11. 

Along with their colleagues, these new council members will help shape the science-based management of U.S. fisheries and continue the strong commitment to turning the corner on ending overfishing, rebuilding fish stocks and achieve and maintain sustainable fisheries and vibrant fishing communities.

The New England Council welcomes new obligatory member Mark H. Godfroy (NH), new at-large member Richard J. Bellavance, Jr. (RI), and returning at-large member Michael P. Sissenwine (MA). The New England Council's balance is now 6 commercial, 2 recreational, and 4 other, which is a change from 7 commercial, 1 recreational, and 4 other.

The Mid-Atlantic Council welcomes new obligatory Paul W. Townsend (DE), and new at-large members Roger L. Mann (VA) and Peter B. Hughes (NJ). one vacant at-large seat held by Maryland will be announced at a later date.
