2017 Atlantic Sea Scallop Fishing Year to Start March 1

September 13, 2016

A reminder to all Atlantic sea scallop fishing permit holders: The 2017 fishing year will start on March 1.

There is a proposed rule in progress, Amendment 19 to the Atlantic Sea Scallop Fishery Management Plan, that would change the start date of the fishery from March 1 to April 1.

However, regardless of whether the proposed rule becomes final prior to March 1, the start date for the 2017 fishing year will remain March 1, 2017.

If the rule is approved, the 2017 fishing year will be 13 months (March 1, 2017-March 31, 2018). We will then start the 2018 fishing year on April 1, 2018.

You can submit comments online on this proposed rule through September 15.
