NOAA Fisheries Announces 15-Day Extension of Comment Period for Proposed Atlantic Sturgeon Critical Habitat

On June 2, NOAA Fisheries announced two proposed rules to designate critical habitat for five distinct population segments of federally listed Atlantic sturgeon.

NOAA Fisheries' proposed rule (pdf) for Atlantic sturgeon critical habitat, and  supporting documentation (pdf), including maps (pdf) showing the areas being proposed are available online.

The 90-day public comment period, 30 days longer than usual, closed on September 1, 2016. We received four requests for extension of the comment period. After considering the comment period already provided and our deadline to publish the final rules by June 3, 2017, we have re-opened the comment period for each of the proposed rules for an additional 15 days.We received four requests for extension of the comment period. The comment period is open through October 14, 2016.
