NOAA Announces Increases in Common Pool Gulf of Maine Cod and Haddock Possession and Trip Limits

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
March 17, 2017

NOAA is increasing possession and trip limit for Gulf of Maine cod and haddock to increase fishing opportunities for common pool vessels and to ensure that the common pool fishery is able to fully access the quotas for these stocks.

We are changing the Gulf of Maine cod possession and trip limit to 100 pounds per trip, with no daily possession limit for DAS and Handgear A common pool vessels for the remainder of the fishing year.

We are also increasing the Gulf of Maine haddock possession and trip limit to500 pounds per day-at-sea and 1,000 pounds per trip.

The small vessel category combined limit of 300 pounds for GOM cod, haddock, and yellowtail flounder remains in effect.

Vessels that have crossed the VMS demarcation line prior to March 16, 2017 may land the new possession and trip limit for that trip.

For more details, read the notice as filed in the Federal Register and the permit holder bulletin.
