NOAA Fisheries Announces 2018-2020 Commercial Golden Tilefish Quotas

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
November 2, 2017

NOAA Fisheries announces the final commercial quotas for the 2018-2020 golden tilefish fishery, as recommended by the Mid Atlantic Fishery Management Council.

The new quotas are effective today, November 2, 2017. The tilefish fishery 2018 management year started on November 1.

The new Individual Fishery Quota (IFQ) of approximately 1.5 million pounds is a 13 percent reduction from 2017, and the incidental fishery quota of 81,571 pounds is a 14 percent reduction from 2017.

All other golden tilefish management measuers, such as the 500-pound incidental trip limit and the 8-fish recreational trip limit, remain unchanged.

There is a proposed Framework Adjustment 2 to the Tilefish Fishery Management Plan that would revise how discards are deducted from the fishery during the quota-setting process. If Framework 2 becomes final, these quotas will be adjusted accordingly in a future action during the fishing year.

Read the rule as filed in the Federal Register today, and the permit holder bulletin as posted on our website for more information.
