NOAA Fisheries Seeks Comments on Proposed Scallop Measures for Northern Gulf of Maine

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
February 20, 2018

NOAA Fisheries seeks comments on a proposed rule to set management measures in the Northern Gulf of Maine for the Atlantic Sea Scallop fishery for the 2018 fishing year (April 1, 2018). This action would:

Set the total allowable catch for the Northern Gulf of Maine for the scallop fishery for the 2018 fishing year and the default total allowable catch for the 2019 fishing year.

Divide the annual total allowable catch between the limited access and limited access general category fleets. Currently, limited access vessels can access the Northern Gulf of Maine while on days-at-sea. This action would prevent them from accessing the Northern Gulf of Maine while on days-at-sea and only allow them access through research set-aside compensation fishing.

Read the proposed rule as published in the Federal Register.

We will be accepting public comment on this proposed rule through March 7. You may submit comments online through the Federal eRulemaking Portal or by mailing your comments to Mike Pentony, Regional Administrator, Greater Atlantic Regional Fisheries Office, 55 Great Republic Drive, Gloucester, MA 01930. Mark the outside of the envelope, “Comments on Northern Gulf of Maine Measures in Framework Adjustment 29.”
