NOAA Announces Atlantic Herring Possession Limit for Cape Cod Catch Cap Closure Area Harvested

As of 00:01 on December 19, 2018, we have projected that the midwater trawl catch cap for the Cape Cod Catch Cap Area has been reached. As a result, the 2,000-lb herring possession limit will become effective on December 21, 2018, in the Cape Cod Catch Cap Closure Area for midwater trawl vessels and will be in effect until the 2019 fishing year begins on January 1.

Midwater trawl vessels are prohibited from fishing for, possessing, or landing more than 2,000 lb of herring per trip or per calendar day in or from the Cape Cod Catch Cap Closure Area (see map). In addition, dealers are prohibited from purchasing herring from vessels that harvest more than 2,000 lb of herring per trip or calendar day from the closure area.
