FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
October 20, 2017

Effective Date: October 24, 2017 through December 31, 2017

The Atlantic Herring Fishery Management Plan states that if catch in the New Brunswick weir fishery through October 1 of each year is less than 4,000 mt, NMFS will subtract 1,000 mt from the herring management uncertainty buffer and add it to the herring Area 1A sub-annual catch limit (ACL) and the stock-wide ACL.

Because Atlantic herring landings in the New Brunswick weir fishery through October 1, 2017, were under 4,000 mt, we have adjusted the 2017 fishing year Area 1A sub-ACL by adding 1,000 mt.

On October 24, 2017, the Area 1A sub-ACL increases from 31,115 mt to 32,115 mt, and the stock-wide ACL increases from 101,656 mt 50 102,656 mt.

Please check the herring quota monitoring website for more information on the status of the herring ACLs.
