Date: July 29, 1999
Dear Northeast Multispecies Permit Holder:
This letter announces that the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) has partially approved regulations implementing Framework Adjustment 30 to the Northeast Multispecies Fishery Management Plan (FMP).
This framework implements, beginning August 15, 1999, a cod trip landings limit of 2,000 pounds per day at sea, up to a 20,000 pound maximum possession limit per trip, for vessels issued a Gulf of Maine Cod Landing Limit Exemption Authorization certificate. This trip limit may be adjusted, either up or down, depending on the risk of exceeding or under harvesting the target total allowable catch (TAC) for Georges Bank (GB) cod. This action is necessary to reduce fishing mortality on GB cod to achieve the rebuilding goals of the FMP. NMFS disapproved the 30-day closed area on Georges Bank.
This letter is only a summary of the approved regulations. To read these regulations in their entirety, you are encouraged to obtain a complete copy by calling 978-281-9278, or via our website, at: http://www.wh.whoi.edu/ro/doc/nero.html
