The below tables provide a summary of sea turtle interactions in the Atlantic sea scallop dredge and scallop trawl fisheries as observed by the Northeast Fisheries Observer Program for the period from April 1, 2023, through September 30, 2023. Sea turtle condition is categorized by the observer as either alive, resuscitated, dead, decomposed, or unknown and that assessment is made at the time of release or last observation. Unidentified turtles and turtles of unknown condition may occur if an observer is off watch, the animal is not brought onboard, the animal falls out of the gear before boarding, or the animal is placed overboard before the observer is allowed to examine it. Scallop dredge and scallop trawl tows are generally short in duration (less than 2 hours) and therefore decomposed animals are usually not attributed to the fishery. NMFS is posting these data biannually by March 1 (representing data collected from April 1 through September of the previous year) and August 1 (representing data collected from October 1 of the previous year through March of the same year) for a period of five years.
