Regional Habitat Focus Areas

Habitat Blueprint Regional Focus Areas

The Habitat Blueprint provides a framework for NOAA to think and act strategically across programs and with partner organizations to address the growing challenge of coastal and marine habitat loss and degradation.  One of the approaches to implement the blueprint is to establish regional focus areas to prioritize long term habitat science and conservation efforts.  Habitat focus areas are selected by identifying spatial intersections where collaboration among NOAA management and science programs and external partners will address multiple habitat-dependent objectives.  In the Greater Atlantic Region, the Penobscot River watershed in Maine and the Choptank River complex in Maryland and Delaware are the two priority areas selected where the agency will focus its resources to support habitat conservation and restoration.  The goals in Habitat Focus Areas include:
