NOAA Fisheries Announces Change to Lobster Area 4 Closure for 2016

NOAA Fisheries announces that the Lobster Area 4  seasonal closure (off northern New Jersey and New York) will be from April 30 to May 31, 2016.

This has been modified from the previous Area 4 seasonal closure dates of February 1-March 31.

This modification was recommended by the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission, which leads the management for American lobster. Its purpose is to reduce fishing effort on the Southern New England lobster stock, which is in poor condition.

This area closure shift has already been implemented by states adjacent to Area 4.

For more information on this action, read the rule as filed in the Federal Register and the permit holder bulletin.
